Eric Weaver, Vice President, Ant’s Eye View

ERIC WEAVER is a veteran digital and social marketing innovator who has spent over 20 years marketing major global brands, including BMW, Brita, eBay, Fedex, Ford Motor Company, General Electric, Intel, the Mayo Clinic, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble, T-Mobile, United Parcel Service, and the administration of US President Bill Clinton, among many others.

For most of his career, Eric has been an early adopter. In 1979, at the beginning of an 11-year stint as a business and systems analyst, he was an early user and community member of ARPANET. Eric got his start in what we now call social media in 1991, when he began serving as a community manager and content curator for America Online. Since those early days, Eric has helped many Fortune 500 brands take their very first steps first onto the Web, and then onto social media. He launched his first blog in 1995, the first enterprise social network for MCI in 1998, started his first podcast in 2005, and that same year, founded the Seattle Flickr Meetup, which now totals over 1,800 members.

These days, Eric serves as Vice President of Social Business Strategy for management consulting firm Ant’s Eye View, whose client roster includes Canon, Cisco, Dell, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Intuit, and Microsoft. There, he advises major North American brands on transforming their organizations by integrating social approaches throughout the value chain.

In 2010, Eric authored and taught one of the first university-level courses on social media metrics at the University of British Columbia. He is a frequent conference speaker and has been quoted in AdAge, BusinessWeek, Fortune, Hoover’s, Inc., the Seattle Times and the Washington Post. Eric now uses social tools to generate awareness and funds in the aid of clean water and homelessness.
